We partner with the most premier suppliers in the industry to enhance quality and performance of the plants we offer. From rooted cuttings to baby seedlings, we offer a wide range of unique selections. Our availability includes bedding plants, herbs, Mono & Multi - culture planters, baskets and pots. Stakey's Flower House offers weekly promotions during the spring season, with additional discounts to our garden club members.
History
The Stakey family has had roots in Aquebogue since the early 1900's. Jim's heritage includes his Grandfather and Father growing potatoes, cauliflower, strawberries and lima beans. In 1976, Jim, with the help of his parents, grew his family's farm to include pumpkins and opened up one of the first "pick your own" pumpkin farm. Jim started a greenhouse business in 1978, forming Jim Stakey Greenhouses, growing flowers for the wholesale trade. In 1998, the business undertook a large expansion with construction of a modern, venlo glass greenhouse. Jim started growing "Proven Winners" products in 2007, to provide retail customers and garden centers the most healthy and long lasting plants the industry has to offer. The "Proven Winners" partners search the world to find and select plants which are clearly superior to others, due to growing trials in the states and abroad. Plants are tested for disease, reliability and consumer interest. In 2010, Jim opened a retail garden center in Aquebogue called Stakey's Flower House, allowing "Proven Winners" enthusiasts access to his wide assortment and hard to find items.
